There was an excellent, but grim, webinar “What’s Next for Tourism?” The negative impacts of COVID-19 are projected to be 9X as bad as 9-11. Tourism is such an important factor for AZ and it was shut down just at the height of our season. There are so many impacts on both urban and rural communities. The panel members predicted that things may not get back to baseline until 2023-4 IF the State adopts a new strategy re: investing in tourism (which has been a challenge since I served on the original AZ Sports & Tourism Board!). It will take a lot of creativity, persistence and adaptability and EVERYONE working together to recover from the mess that has been created here. We will soon see what Arizona is made of!
